A Song is Born

To my friends and readers:

After many years of not writing song lyrics, my songwriting partner looked me up and we are back at it again. Guy Strobel and I spent many hours at his piano and in Greek diners in New York City. I was 30 years old and he was 29.

While I was under the knife, many years later, having a bilateral knee replacement surgery, Guy looked me up and found my brother-in-law in Long Island. Bob gave him my phone number. He called me up while I was still on pain meds, and I was so thrilled to hear from him that I probably talked both his ears off.

Over the past few years now, Guy and I are again the best of friends. He always wanted me to write more lyrics because there has always been something magical about our work together. I told him no, I am writing prose now, lyrics were off the table.

But something about the horror of our borders played constantly in the background of my brain, and one day I sat down and wrote “Woman In The Window.” When I sent it to Guy, he was delighted, wrote the music and took it to a studio to get it recorded. We decided that we should put it on my website for easy access. We are hoping that someone will hear it, imagine it sung by a woman, maybe not even with piano, perhaps guitar, but someone with imagination knowing someone who would want to produce it. This recording is merely a way to try to get it out there. So, if any of you know someone who might be interested, please let me know and I will send it to them.

The times are ripe for songs, poems, stories, essays, art, everything. Every day I see women at various borders, trying to get across them with their children, to make their way to a safer and better life.
